A teen-ager has been charged with capital murder of her 16-month-old daughter who died of severe trauma to the head.

Shernita Holmes , 18, of the 14100 block of Cedar Lane in northeast Harris County, was charged Thursday following autopsy results and held without bail.

The child, Kayla Young, was dead on arrival at Houston Northeast Hospital on Nov. 10. She also had multiple bruises.

Sheriff's Sgt. Bruce Williams said Holmes ' 9-day-old child has been placed with Harris County Children's Protective Services.
